Hawthorne Historical Society

The Hawthorne Historical Society is a not for profit organization dedicated to researching and preserving the city's history. Their museum is located in the Jim Thorpe Park on Prairie Avenue. It features an impressive display of local historical memorabilia. They also have an online store where you can buy some of the wares displayed in the museum. You can even participate in their history tours if you're feeling adventurous.

As for the name Hawthorne, it used to be a bastion of whiteness in Los Angeles county. Although it's still a largely white city, its population has swelled to more than 88,083 in the latest census. Now, it's an important part of the south bay, home to the world's largest space shuttle and several of the biggest companies in the universe. Whether you're a resident or a tourist, you'll enjoy a variety of entertainment options and relaxing neighborhoods. This is particularly true if you have your own car, as there are plenty of free parking spaces. Despite the small size of the community, there's plenty to do in and around town. Some of the best places to go include the Betty Ainsworth Sports Center, a fun and exciting sports complex that is a real show stopper.

Also on the list is the Hawthorne Museum, which features a great display of local historical memorabilia. For kids, the most fun is probably spending the day at the sports center. There's a full-size basketball court, a dance floor, and two racquetball courts. Plus, there are also wading pools, bocce courts, and picnic tables. Even better, it's only a short stroll from the Louis Bay 2nd Library, which is another must do'.

Other fun and interesting destinations include Hawthorne Memorial Park, a 13.5 acre neo-traditional park that features several ponds, a community center, and several tennis courts. To top it off, it's one of the only parks in Los Angeles that offers horseshoes, boccie, and other outdoor games. One of its most noteworthy attractions is the Beach Boys Historic Landmark, a monument to the famous group's childhood home. Another cool thing about the museum is its friendly old geezers.
